CHICAGO — A 40-year-old man was killed and a 25-year-old man was hospitalized after a shooting Wednesday in Back of the Yards.

Around 6:40 p.m., the 40-year-old man was walking in the 5100 block of South Racine Avenue when several men got out of a car and began shooting at him, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago police spokeswoman.

The man was shot multiple times and taken to Cook County Hospital in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead, Sedevic said.

He was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as Darriel Woods, of the 5600 block of South Bishop Street. He was pronounced dead at 7:39 p.m.

A stray bullet from the shooting struck a 25-year-old man in his leg while he was in a home in the 5000 block of South Elizabeth Street, Sedevic said.

He was taken to St. Bernard Hospital, where his condition stabilized, Sedevic said.

Heath Huntspon, 25, was fatally shot a few blocks over earlier Wednesday.

No one is in custody for the shooting.
