CHICAGO — Chicagoans can breathe a sigh of relief as temperatures are expected to warm up later in the week, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures are expected to increase by midweek and continue to rise into the weekend, said Chris Mott, a meteorologist with the weather service.

On Tuesday, Chicago can expect temperatures to be in the mid-teens, with temps rising to the 20s on Wednesday, Mott said. But by Thursday, temperatures are predicted to reach 30 degrees.

Temperatures are expected to hover around the mid-30s on Friday, and remain in the 30s Saturday and Sunday, Mott added.

The "warm up" is a welcome reprieve from last week, when sub-zero wind chills canceled school for two straight days.

Despite the temporary winter reprieve, snow is expected to return late Sunday night into early Monday, Mott said.
