CHICAGO — A 23-year-old man was charged with murder following the fatal shooting of a 51-year-old man during a robbery on the West Side Thursday night.
Around 8:45 p.m., Chinedu Madu was shot in the chest during a robbery attempt in the 1200 block of South Albany Avenue, police said. Madu was reportedly a cab driver for Chicago Carriage Company.
Madu, 51, of the 500 block of East 33rd Place, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:30 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
Tyrese Bell, 23, of the same block as the shooting was identified as the shooter in the attack. Bell was charged with first-degree murder and three counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer, police said.
Bell is expected to appear in bond court Sunday, police said.
