BRIDGEPORT — A new art exhibit is moving into the Bridgeport Art Center gallery.

Titled "Obsession: Once is Not Enough," the show includes work from nine painters and sculptors who "share a determined focus on the fabrication of compulsive surfaces and on a practice of disciplined seriality," organizers said.

The show debuts Friday. An opening reception is scheduled for 7-10 p.m. Jan. 16 at the gallery, located on the fourth floor of the Bridgeport Art Center, 1200 W. 35th St.

Curated by Susan Sensemann, "Obsession" includes work from Barbara Blades, Jerry Bleem, Carolynn Desch, Bonnie Klehr, Corey Postiglione, Tricia Rumbolz, Susan Sensemann, Fern Shaffer, Kathie Shaw and Leslie Wolff.

“If obsession means fixation, the artists in this exhibition are guilty of maintaining a fascination with art that relies on the repetition of mark and material as a meditative process," Sensemann said in a statement. "Abstract or representational, the imagery is a reflection of the impact of the artists’ commitments to making works that require strict devotion to the layering complicated component parts. Once is most definitely not enough — reiteration causes an emphatic path to memory.”
