Armour Square Man's Death Stems from 1940s Shooting, Medical Examiner Says

CHICAGO — An Armour Square man died this week of complications from a gunshot wound suffered in the 1940s, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said Wednesday night.

Tom Buchanan, of the 3200 block of South Wentworth Avenue, was pronounced dead Sunday at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center.

According to the autopsy, the 87-year-old man died from complications of intestinal obstruction from a gunshot wound in his abdomen. Buchanan also suffered from hypertensive and arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease, officials said.

The Cook Country Medical Examiner's Office ruled his death a homicide.
