CHICAGO — A night of poetry centered on the Black Lives Matter movement will take place Sunday at an Austin cultural center.

"Black Lives Matter: A Night of Conscious Poetry" will be hosted by Awthentik Poetry at Sankofa Cultural Arts Center, 5820 W. Chicago Ave.

The event begins at 6 p.m. and admission is free, though the open mic costs $5. Featured performers are Moe-Mentum, Phenom and Lyric.

The Black Lives Matter movement involves protests locally and nationally in the wake of recent grand jury decisions not to indict white police officers in the separate deaths of black men Eric Garner and Michael Brown.
