CHICAGO — Police issued a community alert following recent thefts of air conditioning units in Morgan Park and Beverly.
In December, nine separate air conditioning unit thefts were reported in 118th and South Artesian Avenue, 107th and South Artesian Avenue, and 9900 block of South Talman Avenue, police said in a statement.
In each instance the offenders enter through the backyard, damaging air conditioning units by taking parts, or whole units. All thefts have occurred during daytime work hours, police said.
Police are encouraging residents to report any suspicious vehicles or people in alleys looking into backyards, or working on central air units.
