MCKINLEY PARK — The return of bitter cold and snow means the 12th Ward service van is back in action.

The van can be used to shuttle seniors and other residents around during severe winter weather and to jump dead car batteries. Ward workers can also spread salt on sidewalks, shovel snow and check on neighbors.

It's an annual service by Ald. George Cardenas (12th).

The van's seasonal debut coincides with recent snowfall and the blast of dangerous cold expected on Wednesday, when temperatures will dip into the sub-zero range.

Residents looking to schedule a van visit can call 773-523-8250 or reach out via the 12th Ward Facebook page or even Cardenas’ personal Twitter account.
