ENGLEWOOD — Some South Side residents are eager to form an advisory council and are looking for interested community members to join.

The Hamilton Park Advisory Council isn’t official just yet. The creators are hosting an informational session at Hamilton Park, 513 W. 72nd St., on Tuesday at 6 p.m. A Chicago Park District representative will be present to inform attendees on the steps that must be taken in order to become an active council.

For those residents who are trying to get more involved in Englewood, this group could be a great fit, said Asiaha Butler, president of The Resident Association of Greater Englewood, more commonly known as R.A.G.E.

“This is good opportunity for people in the nearby area to get involved within the park and also think strategically about how the community can help these parks,” she said, adding that many of Chicago’s parks suffer because there isn’t enough positive involvement from the community.

Butler said that Hamilton Park has been ignored for too long and it’s about time that residents are taking an interest.

“The park in general is a beautiful cultural center and the advisory council has been dormant for quite some time, so I think this a good time to revive it and to really look at some of the opportunities that are at the park,” she said.

R.A.G.E. has a partnership with the park so it was only natural for the organization to help promote this soon-to-be advisory council, Butler said.

The informational session is open to all ages and will begin at 6 p.m. at Hamilton Park.
