WICKER PARK — The CTA has corrected the address posted on the main entrance of the Damen Blue Line station, which was reopened this week after a $13.6 million face-lift.

The station reopened Monday, much to the relief of Wicker Park commuters who have had to find other ways around town for several weeks.

Some of the bigger changes included improved signage, a new, wider turnstile gate for strollers and folks with luggage, refurbished walls, new stairs and platforms and new gooseneck vintage-style lighting.

The station also had its address numbers replaced at the main entrance. At the unveiling the numbers said "1588," as in 1588 N. Damen Ave.

The station is actually located at 1558 N. Damen Ave.

The address was corrected late Tuesday afternoon, according to Brian Steele, a CTA spokesman.

But city records hint that this isn't the first time there was an error.

Two recent building permits totaling $25,000 were issued by the city and tied to the incorrect address of 1588 N. Damen Ave. address, according to city records.

Steele told DNAinfo Chicago early Friday that the CTA, city and county records dating to at least the 1970s showed the official address as 1588.

"When CTA reinstalled the address as part of the station reconstruction, crews installed 1588, in keeping with the official address records for the station. It is unknown why 30-plus-year old records listed the address as 1588," Steele said in a written statement.

Steele said that after recognizing the discrepancy the weekend before the station reopening, CTA began researching the issue further.

On Tuesday, the CTA received from the City of Chicago a new House Number Certificate (the official street address from the city) of 1558.

Steele said that the CTA also has notified the county and asked that its records be updated to reflect 1558.
