CHICAGO — A roadside stop effort in Grand Crossing by Chicago Police earlier this month netted nearly four dozen violations, police said Thursday.

Among the charges were seven driving under the influence arrests and three possession of marijuana complaints, police said.

Other citations included 23 unsafe vehicle violations, 8 drivers license violations and 9 other undisclosed traffic violations, police said. Ten vehicles were towed.

During roadside "safety check," police slow down traffic, stop cars "at regular intervals" and watch for drunk drivers, police said.

"This is part of an ongoing strategy to keep the city streets safe for Chicago residents and commuters," CPD Supt. Garry F. McCarthy said in a statement.

Police will be conducting another stop at 5301 S. Ashland Ave. from 5 p.m. Friday through 3 a.m. Saturday, police said.
