WICKER PARK — A new CTA logo affixed to the "L" tracks is among the features of the just-renovated 1890s-era Wicker Park Damen "L" station — making it easier to find — but the address on the station facade is incorrect, a spokeswoman confirmed on Monday.
Newly installed numbers on the facade of the station house list the address as 1588 N. Damen Ave., though the station is actually at 1558 N. Damen Ave.
"It's an error; a member of the construction crew noticed it last night. It will be corrected today," said Catherine Hosinski, a CTA spokeswoman.
The station house's immediate neighbors are La Colombe, a coffee shop at 1552 N. Damen Ave. and Stan's Donuts at 1560 N. Damen Ave. The northernmost address on Damen Avenue, before it ends at the Milwaukee, Damen and North avenues intersection, is 1570 N. Damen Ave.
A screenshot of a Google search lists the station address as 1588 N. Damen Ave. on the CTA's website, but the CTA corrected the address Monday afternoon.
The Cook County Recorder of Deeds lists the station house's address as 1588 N. Damen Ave, along with a 2008 document that includes the station in the Wicker Park Historic Landmark District. Hosinski said that from her research, the address is listed incorrectly as 1588 N. Damen, even going back to a city guide map in 2000.
"A CTA historian is looking into this, and we hope to have more information soon," Hosinski said.
A photo snapped by DNAinfo Chicago before the station renovation in October shows that the correct address of 1558 N. Damen Ave. was on the station facade before the renovations.
