DUNNING — A Dunning woman who has volunteered with the Girl Scouts for 35 years was recently honored for her service.

Patricia Walenga, of Dunning, is one of hundreds of volunteers whose "dedication enables girls to achieve success," said officials with the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana.

A former member of the group's board of directors, Walenga also served as a volunteer historian.

Adult volunteers with the Girl Scouts maintain the organization's legacy and help develop leaders that will shape the future, officials said.

Those who wish to volunteer with the girl scouts can email volunteerinterest@girlscoutsgcnwi.org or call 855-456-8347.
