BRIDGEPORT — Voting is underway in the 2014 "Curbed Cup," a "best neighborhood" contest from the real estate and development blog Curbed

So far, Bridgeport is off to a tremendous start, cruising past first-round contender South Loop.

The publication says Bridgeport "has come back on peoples' radars in the last few years, and rightfully so," largely due to the emerging art, culture and food scene.

The 16-neighborhood tournament kicked off last week.

The groundswell of support for the South Side neighborhood lifted it past first-round contender South Loop, hailed by the blog as taking on new life with "lots of new retail, dining and entertainment options starting to pop up, bringing a taste of culture to the rapidly changing area."

The victory means Bridgeport is the contest's lone South Side representative, with Morgan Park, South Loop, Pilsen and Hyde Park all getting trounced in the first round.

And a Bridgeport win overall could spell the second-consecutive victory for the South Side, as Chinatown won it all last year.

Bridgeport's next contestant? Albany Park.

Voting is expected to resume on the blog this week.

Here's a look at all of the first-round winners.
