
EDISON PARK — Officials with the Edison Park Chamber of Commerce are looking for a few good gifts to make Christmas merry for students at Palmer Elementary School.
The chamber is working to collect 250 gifts for 5- through- 7-year-old students who attend the Mayfair school, said chamber Executive Director Melissa McIntyre.
It is the first year that the chamber has adopted a school at Christmas, McIntyre said.
Thirty gifts were collected at the chamber's annual Santa Express event Dec. 6, McIntyre said.
Wrapped presents marked boy, girl or unisex can be dropped off through Dec. 17 at Romance in Bloom, 6729 N. Northwest Highway.
First Nations Bank donated $500 to purchase additional gifts if not enough are donated, and Nonno Pino's Italian Kitchen will host a wrapping party Dec. 16, and the restaurant's owners have offered to donate enough money to ensure all of the students get a gift, McIntyre said.
Ignite the Spirit, which helps members of the Chicago Fire Department, will deliver the gifts Dec. 19 via a fire truck, McIntyre said.
