BUCKTOWN — Still have not found that perfect, locally sourced gift?

Chocolate is usually a good bet and Heather Johnston, owner of Veruca Chocolates at 2409 N. Western Ave., on the border of Bucktown and Logan Square, has put together a Holiday Tasting and Jewelry Sale, scheduled for 5:30-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Some of Johnston's new holiday items include the Bag of Coal, a red Santa satchel filled with seven dark chocolate truffles rolled in bittersweet cocoa powder, and the Veruca fruit "cake" bar mixing alcohol, chocolate, dried fruit and nuts,

On her blog, Johnston warns the rich and creamy bar is "not your grandma's fruitcake" and is "more like what would happen if a fruitcake married one of our ganache-filled bonbons."

Along with new gift items and tastings of artisan chocolates, the evening will include jewelry from Chloe & Isabel, a discount on in-store buys and a chance to give to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.

Johnston, who is a non-Hodgkins Lymphoma survivor, said 15 percent of sales from her Ultimate Gift Tower, a 4-layer gift box, will go to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. The box is $95.
