WICKER PARK — If taking up yoga is among your New Year's resolutions — or if you already love yoga but want to mix up your routine — a "Techno Yoga" party in Wicker Park could be one way to cap off the week.
Scheduled for 7-10 p.m. Friday, Rooted Self Expression Center's Techno Yoga Party will fuse yoga and dance and electronic dance music curated by Madison-based DJ The Void.
Tickets, which are $30 and include refreshments, can be bought here.
Rooted, which opened in August at 2221 W. North Ave., offers creative workshops for adults, geared toward providing "fitness for the soul."
According to a news release, Friday's yoga event was inspired by electronic music DJs, who are collaborating with yoga instructors to host yoga “raves” for yogis, dancers and music lovers, mainly in cities like New York and Los Angeles.
Rooted founder Shruti Sekhri said that while DJ The Void would not be present at the party, he worked very hard to come up with a playlist for the gathering, where folks can "congregate, detox, de-stress and connect with themselves and others."
Sekhri said both first-time yogis and advanced students are welcome to join the event, where mats will also be provided. Instructor Aliza Roth will be leading the yoga event.
