UPTOWN— Barrel of Monkeys debuts its holiday show, "That's Weird Grandma: The Holiday Special," at the Neo-Futurist Theater Monday.

The show is a collection of short, holiday-themed sketches originally written by CPS students.

Barrel of Monkeys is an arts education theater ensemble that leads writing workshops for 3rd through 5th graders in underserved CPS elementary schools. The stories, written by students, are adapted and brought to life on stage by the Barrel of Monkeys ensemble.

The family-friendly performance is pegged as both funny and poignant, with sketches like "Santa and Taco Bell," "Snowmen from Pluto" and "Santa's Mean Day."

An audience vote decides the sketch line-up so no two shows are ever the same.

"That's Weird Grandma" runs from Dec. 8 through Jan. 5, begins at 8 p.m. at the theater at 5153 N. Ashland Ave.

For tickets, go to www.barrelofmonkeys.org or call (312)409-1954.
