LINCOLN PARK — Under a new system released this week by Chicago Public Schools, a number of Lincoln Park, Old Town and Near North area schools saw their performance rating improve.
The previous school rating system was based on a three-tier system: Level 1 (outstanding), Level 2 (good) or Level 3 (poor).
The new system, called School Quality Rating Policy, now includes five levels: Level 1+, Level 1, Level 2+, Level 2 and Level 3.
The system takes into account a broader range of criteria, according to CPS, including student attendance, academic growth and school culture.
Schools at a Level 2+ or above are considered in "good standing," meaning they meet or exceed CPS performance expectations.
Level 2 schools require "targeted support" to keep moving in the right direction and Level 3 schools call for "intensive support," according to CPS.
