Two Shot, One Fatally, on Far South Side

CHICAGO — Police are investigating a fatal shooting on the Far South Side that killed one man and wounded another.

The two men were shot about 4:45 p.m. in the 10600 block of South Avenue O in the East Side neighborhood, police said.

One man, 26, was shot in the chest. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he died, police said. He was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as James Sweeten, of the 9800 block of South Avenue L.

A second man, 23, was shot in the left arm and torso, police said. He was also taken to Christ, where he his condition had stabilized.

Authorities said both men were documented gang members.

No one is in custody and Area South detectives are investigating.
