CANARYVILLE — The mountains of toys collected by Chicago firefighters and paramedics will be paraded through South Side streets in what's become an annual tradition.

The Chicago Firefighters Union Local 2's 16th annual toy parade steps off at 10 a.m. Saturday at the union's offices at 440 W. 43rd St., then heads north on Union Avenue to 26th Street and makes its way to Halsted Street.

The route through the neighborhoods is expected to last about 30 minutes.

As in years past, organizers are asking Canaryville and Bridgeport residents to line the streets and donate toys, which firefighters and paramedics will collect while marching along the route.

Eventually, the convoy of toys will be dropped off with Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago and distributed to kids throughout the city.
