CHICAGO—  With Thanksgiving over and holiday shopping on the horizon, a citywide small business campaign aims to inspire Chicagoans to buy from local mom-and-pop shops.

This Saturday, Local First Chicago and small businesses are teaming up to hold events throughout the city as part of Small Business Saturday.

The non-profit organization aimed at educating consumers on buying locally, launched its "Unwrap Chicago: Eat, Drink & Buy Local" campaign on Nov. 21.

This campaign aims to "celebrate local businesses, emphasize the positive impact that they have on the community, and ask residents to shift a portion of their holiday shopping to their favorite small businesses," said Lesley Tweedie, Local First Chicago board member and co-owner of Roscoe Village Bikes.

Earlier this week, DNAinfo.com Chicago reporters rounded up their favorite local artisans, products and small businesses for our neighborhood-by-neighborhood gift guide.

"Unwrap Chicago"-sponsored events this Saturday include:

• In Wicker Park, Free Range Office hosts a pop-up shop and business networking from 3-6 p.m. at 2141 W. North Avenue on the 2nd floor.

• Shop Small Bridgeport features local business specials and more from 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. at Hardscrabble, 3333 S. Halsted Avenue.

• Lincoln Square will hold a tree lighting ceremony at 5 p.m. in Giddings Plaza.
