LOGAN SQUARE — The newest exhibit from neighborhood group I AM Logan Square will feature on-the-spot photo portraits to document faces of the community as it stands today.

The exhibit is inspired by international charity Help Portrait, which has been a presence in Logan Square in recent years due to the efforts of neighborhood church Mission Dei, according I AM Logan Square organizers.

An opening reception for the ongoing exhibit kicks off Friday, Dec. 5 at 2644½ N. Milwaukee Ave. from 6-8 p.m., and a Logan Square Help Portrait session will take place Saturday, Dec. 13.

Those portraits will be geared toward low-income families who often don’t have instant access to top-notch photo and documentary services, according to a press release for the event.

“[I AM Logan Square] will showcase the artistic process of local artists using the community as subjects,” the event announcement reads. “The public is welcome to observe and ask questions of the artists as they work. We will also be showcasing a series of engaging educational programming for both children and adults to foster the communication and understanding of the artistic process.”

Photos of neighborhood residents will be taken at both the Dec. 5 opening exhibit and the Dec. 13 portrait session. The photos will then be exhibited and auctioned ahead of the December Holiday season.

A pop-up bar will also be on hand at the opening exhibit with Tito’s Vodka and Goose Island beers. On Saturday, Dec. 6, I AM Logan Square will host a family activity for Holidays on the Square, a public winter events at the Logan Square Eagle.
