UKRAINIAN VILLAGE — If you've lived in the city long enough, chances are a loud car alarm has disrupted your sleep at least once or twice.
Early Thursday, residents near West Huron Street and Leavitt Street were treated to the not-so-soothing sounds of someone's car alarm going off for more than an hour, according to a neighborhood Facebook post.
So, a neighbor decided to leave the car owner a note expressing their frustration in a very unique way.
"Dear a------," the note begins. "Your car alarm went off for 1½ hours last night. You cost the neighborhood REM sleep, growth hormone AND cortisol production (which is highest at 5 a.m. and essential for life!) You basically killed us. Thanks a lot."
The note also included a plastic "martian warrior prince" as a "sign of our anger" and to ensure that the note was "delivered safely."
Well, it was.
The car's owner took to a neighborhood group's Facebook page Thursday to share the note — and an apology for the noisy alarm.
"To my neighbors on the 2200 block of Huron: I would like to apologize to anyone who was disturbed by my car alarm last night," she wrote. "I don't know who or what set it off but I did not hear it until early this morning, and immediately turned it off. I know how annoying car alarms are at anytime, particularly at night. I am taking my car to the mechanic today to check to be sure the system is functioning properly. I do think that the note I found on my windshield this morning could have been a bit more neighborly …"
