Jane Byrne's Funeral Plans, Parking Restrictions Announced

CHICAGO — The city announced plans for the funeral of former Mayor Jane Byrne, who died Friday at 81.

A visitation will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 1010 W. Webster Ave., where her grandparents John Nolan and Margaret Jane Crane Nolan were early parishioners in the late 1890s. Byrne's family lived a block from the church, and her monther attended grammar school there.

A funeral mass will begin at 11 a.m., led by Monsignor Kenneth Velo. All are welcome to attend, according to a release from DePaul University.

Byrne's nephews and nieces will act as pallbearers and readers. Her daughter, Kathy, will deliver words of remembrance.

Following the funeral, a procession will take Byrne's body to Calvary Cemetery in Evanston, stopping in front of City Hall and Byrne's former home at 111. E. Chestnut St.

Byrne's family's burial plot is located in Calvary Cemetery. Her parents, grandparents and late husband are buried there. The original family burial plot was located in Lincoln Park, but moved to Calvary around 1880.

Parking restrictions will be in effect aroung the Lincoln Park church where Byrne will be remembered.

DePaul's Student Center parking lot will be closed to faculty and staff, who can use the Clifton Parking Deck, 2330 N. Clifton Ave.

From 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., parking restrictions will be enforced on:

• west side of Sheffield from Webster to Dickens;

• both sides of Sheffield from Webster to Belden;

• both sides of Webster from Bissell to Kenmore, and

• east side of Kenmore from Webster north to Belden.

From 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.., Webster between Fremont and Seminary, and Sheffield between Fullerton and Dickens, will be closed. Other rolling closures may be put into effect during the procession.
