ROGERS PARK — No musical instrument deserves the fate experienced last week by the house guitar at Armadillo's Pillow, said musician Seth Beavis, of Rogers Park.

After hearing that the bookstore's six-string acoustic guitar was stolen by a pack of hooligans and smashed — only to be left in a garbage can at the beach — Beavis said he did what he thought was right.

On Wednesday night, he donated his old acoustic 12-string Fender to the bookstore as a replacement.

"The store was doing something cool by having that laid-back attitude," said the 25-year-old. "I thought it was a terrible thing to happen — and being a musician, I thought it was exceptionally bad because I don’t think any instrument deserves that kind of treatment."

Beavis said he had been trying to sell the guitar, which he bought for $400 10 years ago, but hadn't had much luck. So when he heard about the guitar at Armadillo's Pillow, he decided to donate to a bookstore he hadn't even been inside of.

"It's really nice of him," said Matt Ebert, who runs the shop with his wife. "It's awesome, and really nice — nothing but nice."

When asked whether the shop's new house guitar was even better than the original, he replied, "I'd say."
