UPTOWN — Less than a year after opening 42 Grams at 4662 N. Broadway, chef Jake Bickelhaupt and his wife Alexa are celebrating after the restaurant was awarded two Michelin stars Tuesday — and so are neighboring restaurants.

Tigist Reda, who is the owner of the Michelin-recommended Demera Ethiopian restaurant at 4801 N. Broadway, said 42 Grams' two-star Michelin rating is "amazing."

"Anything that brings good attention to the neighborhood is great," said Reda, who added the recent filming of "Batman Vs. Superman" in the neighborhood has also brought in more customers.

42 Grams' closest restaurant neighbor, at 4712 N. Broadway, is Agami Contemporary Sushi. Natalie Park, who works at the sushi spot, said since the high-end restaurant joined the neighborhood, Agami has reaped the benefits.

Park said many customers will stop by Agami for a drink before heading to a reservation at 42 Grams. The restaurant's presence "benefits us, too," she said.

"No one just comes to Uptown to eat," Park said, "but people do travel for specific restaurants like 42 Grams."

In a statement Tuesday, Bickelhaupt called the two-star achievement "such an exciting moment."

The rating is "a huge affirmation that everything my wife and I have worked tirelessly to achieve this past year was well worth the time, energy, and sacrifice," Bickelhaupt said in the statement. "I'm truly humbled and honored that my first restaurant has been recognized by the guide in such a profound way for the distinct experience that we provide."
