UPTOWN— CTA riders passing through the Argyle Red Line station will now have a more colorful commute.

A mural featuring an abstract mix of bright red, orange, yellow and turquoise flowers was installed Tuesday at the Argyle station.

Artist Lynn Basa, who has completed more than 15 public art installations across the country, said her "Cornucopia" mural reflects the neighborhood "where cultures mix in a melting pot of cuisines, art, music and color."

"The art is about joyful abundance and harmony," Basa said. "I think of each of these flower forms as unique individuals, each with their own distinctive personalities, moving through the Argyle station on their way to someplace else."

Ibis Antongiorgi, a CTA spokeswoman, said the mural is part of the CTA's permanent collection of public art. Antongiorgi said public art in CTA stations enhances the public transit experience for riders and "helps reflect a neighborhood's unique, vibrant characteristics."
