CITY HALL — The mayor said Wednesday what matters most about the proposed design of the Lucas Museum is that it's here, not somewhere else.
"I'm glad that the museum will be built here, not in San Francisco," Rahm Emanuel said when asked about the newly unveiled designs for the museum during a news conference after Wednesday's City Council meeting.
"It is bold, I think we can say that," Emanuel said, and then twice more added the word "bold" for emphasis.
Emanuel added that these plans, from Beijing architect Ma Yansong, who was commissioned to design the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art set for the lakefront, are preliminary and likely to change.
"These are conceptual, and it's part of an overall process," Emanuel said. "This is the beginning."
Lucas selected the site for his museum earlier this year, opting for Chicago over San Francisco, as well as the world-renowned architect, but it still faces not only planning details, but opposition from groups like Friends of the Parks.
