LOGAN SQUARE — Logan Square already has a few Bib Gourmand award-winning restaurants, but a newcomer in this year’s group of Michelin award winners stands out.
Table, Donkey and Stick, 2728 W. Armitage Ave., sits near the Humboldt Park border and is named for a Grimm Brothers fairy tale. The restaurant is among 11 newcomers to the top-shelf designation, including Parachute in Avondale, which scored the high-profile nod less than six months after opening.
Michelin bills the "Bib Gourmand" list as a grouping of restaurants tailored to locals, who are likely to visit mid-priced restaurants more often than budget-busters such as Alinea.
According to owners at the Logan Square restaurant, Table, Donkey and Stick is "a whimsical take on the inns known as 'berghaus' or 'auberge de montagne' that offer refuge to hikers in the Alps ... The focus is on the table: a place for food and drink, but also for story-telling and fellowship."
The 2015 award roundup of 59 high-quality eateries, released Wednesday, includes 11 newcomers: A10, Parachute, Azzurra EnoTavola, Beatrix, Carriage House, The Dawson, Dusek's, Herb, Table Donkey & Stick, Untitled and Two.
To qualify on Michelin's affordability index for this list, Bib Gourmand restaurants must offer two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less excluding tax and tip.
