BACK OF THE YARDS — The Chicago Park District is starting a boxing program geared toward military veterans.

The program begins 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Davis Square Park, 4430 S. Marshfield Ave. and takes place again on Nov 12.

It's free to participate.

The boxing lessons are part of a park district pilot program. If there's enough interest in the first two sessions, the district will launch a 10-week training program throughout the winter.

The classes will be taught by Eddie Davis, a former steelworker and experienced boxing coach.

Participants can expect to learn boxing fundamentals, cardiovascular exercise and strength conditioning techniques.

Interested in learning more? Call the park district at 312-747-6107.
