EDGEWATER — The Raven Theatre plans to upgrade its facade, install new LED lights above its stage and bring in new carpet in a major makeover.

Kelli Strickland, the neighborhood theater's executive director, said "the beautiful metal cut sign" at 6157 N. Clark St. will remain, but much more will change.

"I think that we really have to work hard to make our little corner of the world appealing," Strickland said, referencing the numerous auto repair shops along the "not a particularly attractive" Clark Street corridor.

The small theater was awarded a $100,000 grant from the city to help fund the upgrades. The theater will pay another $33,000, of which it's raised $20,000, Strickland said.

The yellow-brick facade will also get a coat of paint in shades of green and brown. And the theater's new logo will be featured.

"We want to be inviting," she said. "We don’t want to be foreboding looking building."
