CHICAGO— An off-duty Cook County Sherriff's officer was shot in Auburn Gresham early Sunday morning.

At 3:40 a.m., the 34-year-old officer was shot in his hand during an attempted robbery in the 7900 block of South Paulina Street, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The officer was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was listed in stable condition, Sedevic said.

No one is in custody, and Area South detectives are investigating.
