ROGERS PARK — An anti-violence group called the "Peace Angels" plans to walk from Rogers Beach to Willye B. White Park Friday as part of a mock funeral procession, organizers said.

The group intends to raise awareness about the impact of the neighborhood's gun violence to help put a stop to it, said Brandon Murray, 30, a neighborhood resident who works with the Howard Area Community Center to help young people find jobs.

"We’re about promoting peace and putting a stop to this," he said, adding that the mock procession will show the public the unseen damage that violence has had Chicago families.

The public is encouraged to join the procession, whose members will wear all black and carry a handmade black casket.

The procession begins at 4 p.m. at Rogers Beach, 7705 N. Eastlake Terrace. Murray said a "viewing" of the casket will be held at Willye B. White Park on Howard Street.
