GOLD COAST — A snapshot of Dr. Seuss' little-known hat collection will go on display at Atlas Galleries Oct. 24 through Nov. 2.
The gallery in unit 6 at 900 N. Michigan Ave. is the touring exhibition's second Chicago stop. It was previously in the Art of Dr. Seuss on the second floor of Water Tower Place from Sept. 18 to Oct. 14.
Children's book author Theodor Geisel and his wife, Audrey "used to have dinner parties at their house," said Bill Dreyer, curator of the Art of Dr. Seuss gallery on Water Tower Place's second level.
"If he thought the party was getting a little boring or lagging a little bit, he would go into the hat closet, grab some of his hats, put hats on people's heads and ask them to act out the character of the person they think would wear a hat like that."
Geisel's collection inspired him to write "The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins," which celebrates its 75th anniversary this year.
