AUBURN GRESHAM — This month The ARK of St. Sabina is one of 21 nonprofits, chosen by the Chicago Housing Authority, to provide assistance to low-income residents seeking public housing assistance.

Online applications for three separate waiting lists by the CHA are available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Oct. 27 to Nov. 24 at The Ark, 7800 S. Racine Ave., and staff will be available to assist anyone needing help, said Katrice Kendall, a spokeswoman for The Ark of St. Sabina.

The CHA is opening its waiting lists for residents seeking a Housing Choice Voucher, family housing or property rental assistance.

The three waiting lists provide different housing assistance.

The Family Public Housing program provides affordable housing assistance to low-income individuals and families in properties owned and operated by the CHA; the Housing Choice Voucher program provides housing assistance using a voucher to rent an apartment or house in the private rental market (voucher is provided to applicant); and the Property Rental Assistance program provides housing assistance using a property based voucher in certain properties (voucher is provided to landlord for of the unit).

Currently there are about 10,000 people on the public housing list, but the housing voucher wait list has been depleted, according to Wendy Parks, a spokeswoman for the CHA.
