BELMONT CRAGIN — A woman was shot and killed in Belmont Cragin early Sunday morning.

At around 12:35 a.m., an 18-year-old woman was sitting in an apartment in the 5300 Block of West Oakdale Avenue when shots came in from the outside, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The woman, identified as Alexandria Burgos, was shot in the head and transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead, Sedevic said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office listed her home address and the address of the shooting in the 5200 block of North Nagle Avenue, but police said no fatal shootings occurred at that address.

The Medical Examiner's Office said Burgos died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, and could not say if Burgos was the intended target of the shooting.

No one is in custody, and Area North detectives are investigating.
