AUBURN GRESHAM — Organizers of a local basketball game said it hopes a friendly game of hoops will bridge the gap that exist between Chicago police officers and Auburn Gresham residents.

The free "Ballin' For Peace" game starts at 7 p.m. Monday at The Ark of St. Sabina, 7800 S. Racine Ave., and will pit officers from the Gresham Police District against "the brothers from the community," said the Rev. Michael Pfleger, pastor of St. Sabina Church.

"This is a natural out growth from our Peace League," Pfleger said. "Basketball has been the hook to get brothers into GED classes, find employment and now to begin to build a bridge and open lines of communication between police and the community."

He added that after the game both teams will share conversations while eating dinner to help further build relationships and get to know one another.
