South Loop Photo Contest Winners Announced

SOUTH LOOP — South Loop Neighbors announced the winners of its "Life in the South Loop" photo contest Wednesday an an opening reception for the pop-up gallery that will showcase the images through the end of October.

The contest asked shutterbugs to snap images around the South Loop that showed the neighborhood's personality and the lives of the people within it.

In the student photo category, Haley Wellman of Whitney Young High School won first place, followed by Mark Trujillo of Lincoln Park High School in second place and Columbia College's Abi Sims in third.

Amateur photographer winners were Thomas Scharz in first place, Michael Bullard in second and Mike Knezovich in third place.

In the professional photography category, first place went to Linda Horton, followed by Jori Remos in second place and Greg Borzo in third place.

The grand prize in each category was $250, second prize was $150 and third prize was $100.

Winners were chosen by a juried panel that included Lora Delestowicz-Wierzbowski, a studio artist at the Bridgeport Arts Center.

Photos will be displayed at The Shops at Roosevelt Collection at 150 W. Roosevelt Road through Oct. 31.
