CHICAGO — A South Chicago man was drunk Saturday afternoon when he crashed his car into a pole and a parked car, killing another man, police said.

Dwayne Montgomery, 37, of the 2800 block of East 83rd Street in South Chicago was charged with aggravated DUI resulting in death, driving on a revoked license and two counts of driving under the influence, police said.

The fatal accident occurred around 1 p.m. Saturday as Montgomery was driving in the 8100 block of South South Chicago Avenue. Montgomery first crashed into a light pole then struck a parked car, causing the man who was sitting inside the car to be thrown from it, police said.

The 44-year-old man, identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's office as Tremayne Bonds, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition after his arm was severed.

He later died from his injuries, authorities said.

"When I heard he was in an accident I didn't know how to feel I was just shocked. But when I got the call I was no good," said Bond's cousin, Angelic Hudson, adding that the shock of Bonds' death was keeping her from moving or thinking properly.

Bonds was a sports fanatic who had served in the Marines, loved people and loved to have fun.

"He was very loveable. He loved music and dancing. He was just learning to step," said Hudson, referring to the Chicago-born form of dance.

"He was also very family-oriented, a very good provider for his son," said Hudson, adding the 44-year-old construction worker's son was 18 years old.

Family said Bonds answered to a number of different nicknames including "Mayne," "Boobie" and their favorite, "Goldie," because of all his gold teeth.

"That was the first thing you see when he opened his mouth," Hudson said.

"His smile lit up the room," added his distraught sister Dawn Bonds, still managing a grin.

"He loved people, loved being around and never like to be alone," Dawn Bonds said.

Montgomery is expected in court Tuesday but is currently hospitalized. Dawn Bonds said her family would not be following the case.

"I don't have anybody now. No one on this earth," she said. "He was somebody that knows me more than I know myself. It feels like another part of me was taken from me."
