CHICAGO — A South Shore man on parole for armed robbery was charged with beating and attempting to rob a woman Friday morning in Lakeview.

On Friday morning, at about 5:20 a.m., officers were conducting a well-being check in the 3300 block of North Sheffield Avenue when they found a 25-year-old woman who had been battered during an attempted robbery, police said Saturday.

Ozzie Scott, 28, of the 7100 block of South Cornell Avenue, was with the victim, and police determined he'd beaten her during a robbery attempt, a police statement said. He was taken into custody and charged with felony aggravated battery causing great bodily harm and felony attempted robbery. Scott was also wanted on an outstanding warant.

The woman "sustained facial injuries," police said, and was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital in "serious, but stable, conditon." The Tribune reported her injuries included a broken eye socket and possible bleeding on the brain.

State records show Scott was released on parole in August after serving six years for armed robbery.

The Tribune reported Scott was ordered held on $1 million bail.
