NORWOOD PARK — Taft High School's teachers of the month for October not only get bragging rights — but they also get the best parking spots on campus.

Principal Mark Grishaber picked Athletic Director Ryan Glowacz, who also teaches seventh and eighth grades, and Larry Hohn, the Norwood Park school's head engineer, as October's teachers of the month.

Both Glowacz and Hohn model "superior student-centered values and teach us every day how lucky we are to be a Taft Eagle," according to a statement from school officials.

Hohn oversaw the nearly complete $17 million renovation of Taft, 6530 W. Byrn Mawr Ave., that overhauled nine science labs, patched crumbling brick, repaired water damage and replaced the school's lockers and windows, many of which were so clouded with age that students couldn't see out of them.

Grishaber gave up the principal's parking spot in order to honor a teacher every month when he took the top job at the school in July.

Grishaber accepts nominations for teacher of the month via email.
