CHICAGO — Mayor Rahm Emanuel has declared Wednesday "Lawrence F. Levy Day" in Chicago to celebrate the longtime restauranteur's upcoming induction into the Chicago Chefs Hall of Fame.
Levy will be honored as this year's "industry legend" at the Oct. 16 Chicago Culinary Museum celebration at Castle, 632 N. Dearborn St., where he will join fellow inductees Stephanie Izard, Gale Gand, Michael Kornick and Phil Stefani.
Levy Restaurants, which Levy chairs and co-founded in 1978, began as a single delicatessen and grew to become the White Sox stadium's skybox caterer, eventually providing premium dining service at nearly 80 arenas, music venues and stadiums across the country.
Levy's restaurant group also operates Chicago restaurants Bar Toma, Spiaggia, Cafe Spiaggia, Jake Melnick's Corner Tap and more.
Emanuel's proclamation, issued Monday, encourages "all Chicagoans to recognize [Levy's] many achievements and culinary contributions to our greater culture," calling the food mogul an "esteemed businessman, successful entrepreneur and noted restaurateur."
"Levy boasts wide-ranging narratives about the City of Chicago that lay the foundation for his distinguished and multifaceted career," the proclamation states.
