AUBURN GRESHAM — Seniors can enjoy breakfast and the Blues at a free event Saturday.

Since 2003 the nonprofit Greater Auburn-Gresham Development Corporation has honored seniors twice a year with a free breakfast. This year the organization has partnered with Cigna HealthSpring to present a concert by the Dream Team blues band.

The "Breakfast and Blues for Seniors" event runs from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Oct. 11 at the Thurgood Marshall Library, 7506 S. Racine Ave.

Carlos Nelson, executive director of the nonprofit, said the event attracts between 100 to 130 seniors. Menu items will vary.

"We're talking about eggs, bacon, grits, hash browns, pancakes, fruits, oatmeal — you name it and we will have it," Nelson said. "One thing I like about this event is that all the volunteers act as waiters and serve the seniors."

He added that the event is open to all seniors regardless of where they live.

"This event is not restricted to Auburn Gresham seniors only," he said. "Any senior can show up and be served."

While walk-ins are allowed, Nelson asked seniors to RSVP by calling 773-483-3696.
