COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A man with an apparent penchant for expensive champagne is charged with ripping off about $25,000 worth of bubbly from a Streeterville club, prosecutors said.

Roosevelt Allen, 44, was charged with two counts of burglary after prosecutors said he was captured on video surveillance on May 28 and June 6 and helped himself to bottles of champagne and liquor stored in the basement of Mercer 113 at 113 W. Hubbard St.

In the first burglary, Allen made off with 49 bottles of champagne valued at roughly $25,000, and in the second he stole about $5,000 worth of liquor, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors did not specify the particular brand of champagne Allen is accused of stealing, though Mercer's bottle service menu includes Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label for $425 a bottle and Dom Perignon Luminous 2002, Epernay for $900 a bottle, just to name a few.

Allen, already in jail on a pending case, was identified on the surveillance video and charged.

A Cook County judge ordered him held on $90,000 bail in the new case on Friday.
