BRIDGEPORT — Pet owners are encouraged to bring their furry friends to the annual blessing ceremony at First Lutheran Church of the Trinity.

The ceremony, which falls on the Feast Day for St. Francis of Assisi, will take place Sunday about 11:30 a.m., shortly after the 10:30 a.m. worship winds down at the church, 643 W. 31st St.

And yes, it's OK to bring your pets to the whole service.

"We haven't had any incidents, which is good. It's a really nice time. We incorporate hymns and prayers that have to do with all of creation and we'll probably incorporate some of St. Francis' prayers as our prayers for the day," the Rev. Tom Gaulke said.

All denominations are welcome.

Gaulke said the service is a "way to open [the church] up a little bit.

"Plus it's cute, right?"
