AVONDALE — The Avondale Neighborhood Association will have a bus waiting to transport residents who want to represent Avondale at this weekend’s Great Chicago Fire Festival.

The neighborhood group’s bus will head down to the festival at 5:30 p.m. Saturday from the Five Below parking lot, 3302 W. Belmont Ave. Residents who were part of the photo booth at the fire festival block party in Avondale this summer may even see their face projected during the downtown performance.

Lizzie Schiffman describes what's happening this weekend:

Reserve your seat on the bus by emailing the association at avondale.unite@gmail.com.

The Chicago River will be ablaze in fiery cauldrons, burning houses and fireworks Saturday as the city's first-ever Great Chicago Fire Festival lights up the Loop. Avondale was chosen as one of 15 neighborhoods highlighted in the show.

The all-day festival is a production of the Pilsen-based Redmoon theater group, meant to celebrate Chicago's rebirth after the Great Fire of 1871. The fest will be capped by an 8 p.m. "Grand Spectacle," that includes the lowering of 15 "fire cauldrons" from bridges over the Chicago River onto boats below.
