SAUGANASH — Participants in the third annual Bob Perkaus Memorial 5K Sunday will honor the longtime Sauganash resident's favorite pastime by running through the neighborhood's leafy streets.

Proceeds from the race organized by the Sauganash Community Association will fund a scholarship at Loyola Academy for students who have lost a parent and support the Sauganash community in memory of Perkaus, who died in 2005.

The 5K race, which will loop around Sauganash Park, 5861 N. Kostner Ave., will start at 9 a.m.

The cost for individual runners is $20 until Sunday, when the cost goes up to $25. Families and groups of no more than four runners can register for $50 until Sunday, when the cost rises to $65. Online registration is available.

Perkaus founded Robar Industries Inc., served as the president of the Sauganash Community Association and was a member of the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association's Hall of Fame. He ran every day, according to his obituary in the Tribune.
