ARMOUR SQUARE — Police are warning CTA Red Line commuters about a series of robberies near a South Side station and surrounding neighborhoods.

There have been eight robberies since August, according to a pair of community alerts issued by police.

Authorities said one or two men have approached victims near the 35th Street/Sox "L" station and demanded money, "threatening or sometimes using physical force." That's happened four times since late August, including the following incidents:

• About 1 p.m. on Aug. 28 in the 100 block of West 33rd Street

• About 8:10 a.m. on Aug. 30 in the 100 block of West 35th Street

• About 10:10 p.m. on Sept. 4 in the 3500 block of the Dan Ryan Expressway

• Roughly 11:23 a.m. on Sept. 12 in the 100 block of West 33rd Street

Authorities describe the bandits as one or two black men between 18 and 30 years old, between 5-foot-5 inches and 6 feet tall and weighing about 150 to 200 pounds.

Police also said four more robberies have been reported in Armour Square and Chinatown. In those incidents, two or three men approached victims and demanded money while implying they were armed.

Those incidents include:

• About 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 10 in the 3000 block of South Wells Street

• Roughly 10:50 p.m. on Sept. 16 in the 2800 block of South Wells Street

• About 11:30 p.m. on Sept. 18 in the 300 block of West 23rd Street

• Roughly 12:25 a.m. on Sept. 21 in the 2300 block of South Wentworth Avenue

Authorities describe the attackers in those incidents as two or three black men between 16 and 27 years old, between 5 and 6 feet tall and weighing about 140 to 160 pounds.

Anyone with information is asked to call Area Central detectives at 312-747-8382.
