AUBURN GRESHAM — Student-athletes at Perspectives Charter Schools will benefit from a pizza party fundraiser that will be held at a South Loop tavern.

The second annual "Pizza 4 Perspectives" runs from 6-10 p.m. on Oct. 10 at Weather Mark Tavern, 1530 S. Michigan Ave. Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door, said Vinay Mullick, athletic director for the charter schools.

"We have about 700 student-athletes that attend our schools and we are hoping to raise $5,000, the same amount we raised last year, to buy equipment, uniforms and make facility improvements," Mullick said. "The monies raised will go to the athletic program and not one specific campus."

He added that because alcohol is served at the tavern, people must be 21 years old or older to attend the event, which provides a variety of unlimited pizzas.

The charter school has five campuses, including one in Auburn Gresham, which earlier this month was named one of eight Chicago recipients to receive a $20,000 Diamond Project grant from the Cubs Charities.

The school at 8131 S. May St. plans to use the grant for indoor training facilities, such as installation of an indoor batting cage, two pitching machines, a pitcher’s protective screen and an indoor practice mound, according to Mullick.

The Cubs and Wrigley Field are 95 percent owned by a trust established for the benefit of the family of Joe Ricketts, owner and CEO of DNAinfo.com. Joe Ricketts has no direct involvement in the management of the iconic team.
